Lately, we've had a lot of requests that sound like "I had AI write my Nexus Letter, I just need you to sign it". Although it would be awesome and convenient to get a Nexus Letter from AI, the thing is, that's simply not how Nexus Letters work – and it won't work for your claim either. We'll explain why it's not a good idea to use AI generated writing for your VA disability benefits claim.
Before you start copy and pasting medical records into ChatGPT, have a read through this blog to learn why AI-written Nexus Letters don't work for VA disability benefits claims:
AI is a great tool, but it cannot replace a medical provider
AI applications such as ChatGPT are great tools, but they simply cannot replace medical providers. With such new technology, there are still plenty of errors made by the software on a regular basis. Also, very specific inputs would be required to even get a small degree of accuracy. Most veterans are not medical professionals and are not able to identify which inputs are medically relevant. On top of that, the input does not always determine the right output – and without validation by a medical provider, you may not be able to recognize what is reliable information.
Here are a few concrete reasons for why AI can't replace medical providers for veterans:
Medical providers cannot sign AI generated documents. In order to keep their professional integrity, medical providers can't simply sign a document that was generated by AI. This would go against legal, ethical, and moral standards. They need to review the case and form their own opinion in writing before they can sign it.
AI cannot accurately assess or diagnose your condition. Since AI is just an algorithm, it doesn't have the ability to assess a veteran's condition fully, and it can't think in the same way that humans do. Therefore, it can't issue a proper diagnosis or find a medical nexus. Also, not every veteran qualifies for every connection unless it's a presumptive condition. This is easily misinterpreted.
Medical providers know the VA better than AI does. The VA is always changing, and it's hard to keep up with the ins and outs on top of the longstanding history of how things actually work. Updates happen fast, and our medical providers at MRPY Professional Services stay up-to-date on all of the changes more than AI can (it searches through internet archives and can potentially use old information). Â One example is with Gulf War presumptives: There have been several iterations regarding these, and all are available on the public facing VA websites. There are contradictions between these versions of regulation, and only a human can decipher this correctly and accurately.
What you get when you work with a private (and human!) medical evidence provider
People choose to work with private medical evidence providers for a few different reasons. Here's what you get when you work with a company like us:
Documents that are individually crafted just for you, based on your unique situation.
Your documents are created by professionals with experienced judgment and review.
A team with up-to-date knowledge and experience with navigating the VA.
Critical thinking, records evaluation, and ability to determine what's most important.
Is there any way to still use AI to benefit your VA disability benefits claim?
The only way we can recommend using AI at all in regards to your VA disability benefits claim is as a tool to summarize your thoughts. This could be helpful for summarizing thoughts and experiences that you might keep a journal about, or when organizing your thoughts to prepare for writing a personal statement.
